The AIDS Walk Detroit Board of Directors decided to cancel due to Royal Oak construction making the route unusable, and the inability to find a suitable new event location in a limited timeframe

WHAT:   Organizers of the 2018 AIDS Walk Detroit, which had been scheduled for Sept. 16, 2018, in downtown Royal Oak, have decided to cancel this year’s event as a result of construction taking place in Royal Oak that made the planned AIDS Walk route unusable.

“As a result of the development construction taking place in downtown Royal Oak and the limited timeframe we had to plan for an alternative location, we decided to cancel this year’s event,” said AIDS Walk Detroit Board of Directors President Teresa Roscoe. “We wanted to be certain that the execution of the 2018 AIDS Walk Detroit was at the highest level for participants, agency partners, corporate sponsors and the overall brand itself.”

The organizers’ focus will now turn to planning and executing an updated event for 2019 that will include:

  • Adding new features to the event
  • Building on the energy and excitement of a new

  • Adding additional event support staff
  • Redefining the role of partner agencies
